The Brian Mulroney Institute of Government Presents
Lament for a Nation at 60
November 13-14, 2025
A Hybrid Symposium: Mulroney Hall 4030/Zoom
The Mulroney Institute will be hosting a hybrid symposium celebrating the 60th anniversary of George Grant’s Lament for a Nation (1965). The two-day event gathers a diverse group of scholars: historians, political theorists, political economists, philosophers, and sociologists. This multidisciplinary approach allows the opportunity to look at various aspects of Grant and his famous work. Doing so is important not only because Lament for a Nation is celebrating a milestone anniversary, but also because the book has renewed relevance in the age of Donald Trump and the “elbows up” nationalism of the current moment.
