The Brian Mulroney Institute of Government is excited to offer a new program for StFX students interested in developing exceptional leadership skills via a unique experiential learning opportunity. Through the Road to Parliament (R2P) Program, up to 12 StFX students will travel to Ottawa to participate in an intensive leadership immersion experience.
While in the national capital, participants will engage directly with senior federal public servants, parliamentarians, ambassadors, policy leaders, civil society executives, and distinguished StFX alumni working at the highest levels of public life.
Students will
- Participate in a Mock Parliament
- Meet with senior public servants and NGOs
- Tour the House of Commons and Senate
- Develop exceptional leadership skills
- And more
Participants must be StFX students in good standing from any discipline or program. Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, exceptional leadership potential, commitment to public service, intellectual curiosity, community engagement, and an interest in national and global affairs.
Students accepted into the R2P will be asked to make a non-refundable deposit of $200 to ensure participation and eligibility. Travel and accommodation costs will be covered.
Students interested in R2P will be required to submit an application package by Oct. 9, 2026. The selection of participants will be made by a committee of the Mulroney Institute’s Chairs and Fellows.
Those accepted into the R2P Program will be notified by Oct. 16, 2026.
R2P Application Requirements
Participants must be StFX students in good standing from any discipline or program. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to academics, exceptional leadership potential, commitment to public service, intellectual curiosity, community engagement, and show an interest in national and global affairs.
Students interested in the R2P will be required to submit an application that includes the following:
- Cover letter: Introduce yourself to the selection committee. Tell us why you should be a part of this program. You may wish to consider some of the above-mentioned elements (academics, leadership, public service, curiosity, community engagement, etc.)
- Unofficial Transcript
- Essay: A 500-word essay that outlines your interest in national affairs, your commitment to public service, and a short discussion of a Mulroney Institute event that you have attended that was impactful for you.
The application package will be due October 9, 2026. Those accepted into the R2P Program will be notified by October 16, 2026. The selection of participants will be made by a committee of the Mulroney Institute’s Chairs and Fellows.
